Thoughtful Thursdays: Transitions

Heyo folks, we’re back with another Thoughtful Thursday post. First off, if you celebrate Thanksgiving, hope it was great, the turkey was moist, and the pie was delicious. You know, the actual pie, not the pie we discussed last time.

Anyway, we’re transitioning from one big holiday that we all gotta deal with around the world, and that is Mariah Carey Christmas songs.

…okay, Christmas. Sorry, low hanging fruit, but those are the kind I can hardly resist.

Anyway, transitions are what’s on the table this week. Transitions are always when we’re at our most vulnerable when it comes to a vast array of things, and Wing Chun is no different. We have ways of mitigating the vulnerabilities, but what I would like to focus on is which transitions are the ones you’ve found yourself struggling with the most. Is it your pivots? Is it your Bong Saos?

For me, it’s the pivots. Footwork has always been a tricky beast for me. It’s a big obstacle I’m still learning to harmonize with. I’ve gotten better of the years, but it still surprises me with some curveballs.

    Hi Dustin,

Happy Holidays. Same for me, it’s the pivots.

Thanks Dustin. For me it it is arcing elbows with left-right-left anf right-left-right pivots. Sometime these movements have to broken down into their basic parts then integrated back together the see and learn how they are done correctly. Sometimes you need a more mature Wing Chun practitioner to check the results to insure you maintain the integrity of the lineage.

Happy Holidays, Dragon Family! Dustin, for me I am just starting to learn the pivots and that is a challenge for me as well. I will be doing my sil lin di da and have to pay very close attention to the footwork. It has gotten much easier the more I practice, but I have a feeling this is going to be something I struggle with as well.
