    Hey folks,

Here we are, close to the end of the year. Before I begin with the post, I wanted to give a heads up that there will be no Thoughtful Thursdays posts for the next two weeks since next week is Christmas Day, and the week after that is New Years Day. Posts will resume on 8 January 2026.

Since this is the last post of the year, I’m going to do a bit of a homework assignment…thing. (Yes, that feels weird to type out, but I’m keeping it in.) Think about your journey this year. Did you start this year? Have you been continuing this year? What have been some of your revelations? What have been some of your tribulations? What have been some of your favorite moments this past year?

As always, I’ll start us off: Some of you may be aware that this year has been pretty brutal for me, but if you aren’t, well, this year has been pretty brutal for me. Through it all though, there were, thankfully, some constants. Wing Chun is one of those constants. My biggest revelation this year was, and this may sound rather basic, the reinforcement that my training time is my “me time.” A moment to just go “I’m answering this chaos happening around me on my own terms.” It’s a small victory that adds up over time.

My biggest tribulations this year has been to just getting my practice cadence back to where it was toward the beginning of the year, I’d say. These Thoughtful Thursday posts have been a help with that too. Writing out these posts have also made me think about my own tribulations, which I’ve shared in previous posts.

My favorite moment this year was breaking through the personal chaos of the year. I’d be lying if I said I was completely free of it, but getting through the worst of it has been very empowering. If you had asked me what my favorite moment was a little over half a year ago, it would have been my quest in achieving the 20 minute Siu Nim Tao again. I hadn’t hit the 20 minute mark, but I was getting there, and I will be again.

Anyway folks, thanks for reading and participating. See you all next year!

    Hey Dustin!

I started at Dragon Institute at the beginning of the year. It’s surprisingly hard to find a quality school within driving distance, and I tried a couple of other online schools last year, but they didn’t stick. So biggest success of the year for me has been finding direction, guidance and making progress with my training again, after a couple of years going around in circles.I

I think the hardest thing for me has been to fully let go of my old lineage. Having spent 4 years getting pretty far with it, and enjoying the forms and weapons especially…. I know that you can’t follow two Sifus intellectually, but fully dedicating my solo practice to one system has been a battle. I won’t promise not to put in an occasional sword form for old times sake, but only after a solid daily Leung Sheung practice!

    Happy Holidays everyone!

      We’re grateful to have you!

I can only imagine what it’s like having to move on from one lineage to another. Sounds like there are a lot of old habits to replace.

Have yourself a great end of the year, and may your training in the next year bear some awesome fruit!
