    Heyo folks,

Here we are on another Thursday. Some recent happenings on my end have had me thinking about a saying from Taoism.

“All men know the use of the useful, but nobody knows the use of the useless. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so that I can have a word with him?”

It’s a very interesting saying that has had some relevance for me this past week. I’m curious to hear what you all think of this teaching. I interpret it as “Everything is useful, but sometimes that usefulness is not so obvious, and that usefulness that is to be found is one that must be sought out.” Or to put it another way, keep your mind open! Hopefully this post will have use for you in your training this week.

Thought provoking quote – and I like your interpretation! My mind often works in a somewhat non-linear way, so your quote instantly reminded of another quote “you’ll never know where you are, until you get there” (I believe Bugs Bunny said this).

    Hey Dustin,

I always enjoy your posts, thanks for keeping them up.

It’s surprising how certain quotes can speak to you enough that they stay in mind enough to shape the course of your life… a couple of mine are

    • “Where ever you go, there you are” also a Taoist saying I believe, and at once both utterly trivial and yet extremely deep – I heard it from Alan Watts.
    • “if it’s worth doing at all, it’s worth doing well” – my late grandfather often said this to me while I was growing up, and it has really shaped the way I approach almost everything as an adult!
