Thoughtful Thursdays: Mook Jong Names

Got a bit of an unusual one here this week. For those of you who have a Jong, did you give it a name? If so, why did you choose that name? For those of you have yet to get a Jong, but plan to, do you plan to give it a name? If so, why did you pick that name?

I call my Jong, “Po” from Kung Fu Panda. I always really liked Po’s story of overcoming his various struggles. His journey from the beginning to the end of the first movie, while condensed since, let’s be real, if they showed the entire thing, it’d be many hours, was always a favorite of mine, from how the character is written, to Jack Black’s performance, to the music that accompanied it. Being that I struggle with weight issues too, it really struck a chord with me, so I thought that Po was a fitting name.

Side note, it’s completely fine if you choose not to name your Jongs. Some folks do, others do not.

I hadn’t thought about naming it, but now that you mention it, I gotta get on that.

    Thanks

Lol. Yes I have named mine, ” Spruce Leaf”. Kind of a play on the name Bruce Lee.

I had not thought of it as well. I will consider it, but have to think about my attitude and approach when I practice with it. If others have suggestions and thoughts to help prime the thought process please share.

I like to write stories as a hobby, so I can understand the struggle of naming something. It can be something meaningful, something silly, anything you want really. It just adds a bit of extra fun to your training, especially when you say “Oh, I was working with Po on some of my training.”

I named my MJ dummy FIFO. It is made of PVC pipe. You pour water through the pipe it goes First In First Out. FIFO just seemed right at the time.

    “แพงมากแล้ว”

I have been thinking about a good name for my newest dummy since I learned some of you have clever names. But the original name came to me spontaneously when I first got it, and it may very well stick!

If you use google translate, you’ll understand the joke 😉

After a couple of months of pondering this question to no avail. I found myself practicing today and doing my diagonal kicks. My dummy being on wooden rails slid over and got stuck (minor issue). I popped it back into alignment and finished my set and patted the Mook Jong on the side and said “Sorry about that, I appreciate you “Bud”. Thus my Mook Jong is Bud. ; – )
