    Greetings.

I have a doubt about starting training with the wall bag. Is it recommendable to start with this after Siu Nim Tao, or after learning some specific drills?

And I have seen some other exercises, in traditional Kung Fu, to get better at punching or strengthen the hand, as shown in the link that I attach here. Can this be applied to get better at Wing Chun?

    Thank you.

I can’t really speak for everyone here, but when I started, I was taught how to do chung choi in the air and some of the Siu Nim Tao for my first day of training. The wallbag came pretty shortly after that. As far as this video though, I’ve never really seen any sort of training involving a wallbag being horizontal. It doesn’t really look like it would be of much benefit as opposed to just putting a wallbag on the wall.

      Excellent. Thank you, Dustin.

And, by the way, I can’t see and respond to the message that you sent me for some reason. I’m very sorry. It’s not because I’m rude, haha

Huh! That’s strange. I’ll pass that along to Sifu if he hasn’t seen it already.

Great question. You can begin wall bag training immediately. However, Dragon Family Wing Chun uses the wall bag to create structural stability within the body. We don’t try to harden the hand train because we train the body to move force through the hand, not the hand to create force. That distinction is important. We trains whole body alignment and relaxation so force is transmitted through the body and goes through the point of contact without local tension. Hard hand conditioning works against the sensitivity, softness, and internal connection that Dragon Family Wing Chun relies on.

Great question, Angel, and “Thank You” Sifu for your response. I have done the 10 count conditioning drill, but I have never heard the “structure and rooting” aspect which makes so much more sense. Thanks for your video Sifu! I will be changing the way I use the wall bags for sure!!!
