Siu Nim Tau with a metronome?

Starting week 6 of the online course and loving the idea of using a metronome for the Jong.

Quick question: is there any value applying this method to empty hand forms too? When I performed team forms in Taekwondo, we used a metronome as a starting point to get the team in sync, but then dropped it as it spoiled the cadence of fast and slow parts of the form. For Wing Chun, do you think its a useful training tool? But to be discarded after it has served its purpose?

I’ve used a metronome on everything in Wing Chun because I feel it has so much value. We’ve even used it in sparring with great success. The key with anything in Wing Chun, and anything in life, is balance.

Good to know, thanks. I’ll make more use of it in my training too then!

I started at 40bpm, and a week at a time worked up through 60bpm to 80bpm in Siu Nim Tao. I struggled on the Jong at 80bpm, and this week I moved up to 100bpm for just the Jong. I am not even close at 100bpm yet, but dialing back to 80bpm feels like going slow 😉
