chung choi with entry

When practicing chung choi with entry, do you start R to R, for example, enter, do a number of chain punches and then back out somehow? Or, do you just change to L to L, enter and do a number of chain punches? Or…is there a way to back out/transition from R to R then L to L, back to R to R, back to L to L? (Hoping my question makes sense?????) Thank you!

Generally speaking, at the beginning of the drill, we start left to left.

If I’m understanding your question correctly, is there a way to transition from left to left lead to a right to right lead in the midst of practicing chain punching? You could possibly try an odd number of chain punches so that you can reset with the opposite hand in front. So, for example: From a left to left lead, enter, chain punch 3 times so that you hit right, left, and end with right. Then reset with your partner so that your right hand is now your lead, and you’re in right to right lead. Repeat and end with your left hand punch to switch back. Hopefully, that makes sense.

<div>My question is referring to the footwork where the practitioners start the drill with the entry. Initially they are left to left, step in, and then do chain punches. Then Sifu demonstrates entering with practitioners stepping in right to right. Is there/should there/could there be, for the purposes of flow in the drill, a way to back out to switch to entering on the other side? Thanks!</div>

Hey Deb – There’s no specific transition when switching sides. You do 4 punches and then start over on the other side.
